THE CLUB The Upper Hunter Recreational Four Wheel Drive Club is a family oriented 4WD club whose aims are to encourage and foster the activity of four wheel driving. The club covers all of the Upper Hunter areas with members from as far a field as Singleton, Muswellbrook, Scone, Mudgee, Denman, Merriwa, Branxton, Greta, Newcastle & Gosford.
ACTIVITIES Trips are organised in advance and are generally held on the third weekend of each month. These may be of one or two days duration with a longer trip of one to three weeks held each year. Social outings are also held at various times during the year.
MEETINGS Meetings are held on the second Wedensday of the month at the Macquarie Generation Sports & Social Club Hall, Liddell Power Station and beginning at 7:30pm.
New members are always welcome.
Having bought a four wheel drive, you may want to use its capability to visit great destinations around the Hunter Valley and beyond.
Four wheel drives can’t go everywhere. If you get stuck, can you get yourself out of your predicament?
We find it’s best to: -
Travel with another vehicle.
Learn how to use your vehicle’s capabilities in different conditions.
Learn the skills needed for safe vehicle recovery.
Carry your own recovery equipment on all trips
Make sure your vehicle has (original equipment or better) towing points at the front and rear.
Carry a snatch strap and a load rated bow shackle.
Carry a first aid kit.
Before visiting an area, obtain a decent map and be able to read it.
Tyres must be capable of off highway conditions.
Ensure your jack will operate in rough conditions.
Carry a substantial board as a footing for the jack.
Got all these? Can do all that?
Then enjoy the bush. 4WD touring is a great challenge and a satisfying learning experience for you and your family.
Bush touring is all the more pleasurable when travelling in company.
Don’t go out alone unless you have to.
Let someone know where you are going.
